How it is used now
The park is used by children, parents, neighbours and customers of the nearby premises. People cross, stop, play or socialise, and the square already has an intense public life, not only a potential to be activated.

In brief
The proposal extends Sfântul Ștefan Park toward the eastern side and moves current traffic onto the western side, organised as two-way. The recovered space becomes a pedestrian edge with trees, places to sit, a clear area for terraces and a multifunctional square. Residents’ access, deliveries and emergency vehicles remain possible, under a controlled regime.
Current situation
Sfântul Ștefan is already one of the most used squares in the project: park, playground, crossing route, meeting place and an address for homes and cafés. That intensity is exactly what makes the place valuable, and also hard to organise. Traffic, parking and public use sit directly on top of residents’ everyday life.
Traffic, parking and access
Cars run on both sides of the park, and parking occupies even its ends. The link with Calea Călărașilor brings traffic, and crossings and pedestrian visibility are affected by the current layout.
Existing vegetation
Mature trees give shade and support the park character. Some areas remain too mineral or insufficiently shaded, and the green edges are interrupted by roadway and parked cars.
Historic and architectural landmarks
Sfântul Ștefan Church, built in the eighteenth century, the park and the historic fronts around it define the identity of the place. The existing bust is another landmark along the route through the square.
Housing and neighbourhood life
The square sits next to homes and local businesses. It is an important meeting place, but evening use, noise, access and parking are real concerns for some of the residents.
What we propose
One side given back to people on foot
The eastern side is taken into the park, with car access only when it is needed.
A greener, more shaded park
A new tree line and perennial planting complete the existing mature vegetation.
A flexible square
The space toward Ștefan Mihăileanu can host neighbourhood activities, but stays open the rest of the time.
Safer crossings
The reduced roadway, new crossings and the level platform calm the traffic.
Organised parking and access
Parking stays on the western side, and access for residents and services is controlled.
Why this solution
Here consultation did not produce a single opinion. It showed a legitimate tension between the wish for a greener, safer park and the need for quiet, access and control of use. The proposal does not turn the square into a permanent events space. It orders what already exists, recovers ground occupied by cars, keeps the neighbourhood function and separates traffic, terraces, play and rest more clearly.

- Mature vegetation and the existing landmarks of the place
- Access for residents, services and emergency vehicles
